Non-invasive ventilation is breathing support administered through a face mask, nasal mask, or helmet that does not require tracheal intubation. It is different from CPAP; in that it delivers variable pressure depending on whether someone is breathing in or out.
Invasive Ventilation offers similar treatment to NIV but, instead, requires an endotracheal or tracheostomy tube to be inserted in the patient’s airway. This type of ventilation is typically used in emergency situations or when non-invasive ventilation is not possible.
Chest percussion vest therapy helps loosen thick mucus secretions and clear them from airways leading to improvement in both pulmonary function and quality of life. This therapy reduces the patient’s number of exacerbations and infections by reducing airway inflammation and mobilizing secretions.
Through the use of a mechanical insufflation-exsufflation device, cough assist simulates a natural cough in order to non-invasively clear secretions from the lungs. Air is blown into the lungs and then quickly pulled out to clear mucus in a way similar to actually coughing.
Oxygen Therapy includes equipment like, Stationary concentrators, portable concentrators, and oxygen tanks. Most commonly, administered through nasal cannulas. The stationary concentrators allow you to have oxygen while at home and the portable concentrator allows someone to have oxygen when they're on the go! Oxygen treatment is used for many respiratory illnesses, short-term and long-term.
